Healthy Habits: Our Top Tips for a Healthy Body

Every week of January, Gravitas are bringing you some of our top Healthy Habits for 2021.

 

This week, it’s all about looking after your body.

 

Drink more water

This one’s an obvious one, but it’s so important! Staying hydrated keeps you alert and helps you focus and concentrate better throughout the day. It also flushes out toxins from your body and improves your skin complexion. Create some rules for yourself, e.g. drink a full pint of water as soon as you wake up, and always have a glass on the go when you’re working.

 

Walk 10,000 steps a day

It’s especially important to keep moving around during this period of working from home. Right now, we may be spending all day sitting at our desks without leaving the house. Go for a walk or jog every day for at least 30 minutes to hit your target.

 

Don’t overdo it on the caffeine 

All things in moderation. If you drink tea or coffee, stop drinking it after lunch, or switch to decaf versions. Caffeine can stay in your system for up to 12 hours, which can be disruptive to our sleep patterns if drunk later in the day.

 

Eat colourful meals

Make your meals healthier by including a wide variety of different colour fruits and vegetables. It doesn’t just look great, it means you’re getting a wide variety of essential nutrients and vitamins.

 

Sleep 7-9 hours every night

Prioritise getting the right amount of sleep and give yourself a regular sleep schedule, going to bed and getting up at similar times each day. You can also improve your sleep quality by practicing good ‘sleep hygiene’, e.g. switching off all electronics at night, and spending 30 minutes relaxing and unwinding before you go to sleep.
